Selling at auction for the first time can feel overwhelming — but it doesn't have to be. After 25+ years of conducting auctions across North Texas, we've seen every mistake a first-time seller can make. Here are the five things we wish every new seller knew before they ever signed a consignment agreement.
1. Photos matter more than you think. Buyers make decisions based on photos — especially in online auctions. The more photos you provide, the better your item will perform. Don't skip the undercarriage, the engine bay, the hour meter, or the serial plate. Phone photos are perfectly fine as long as they're clear and well-lit.
2. Honest condition descriptions protect everyone. If your tractor smokes at startup, say so. If the loader has a slow leak, disclose it. Buyers who feel misled don't come back — and neither do their friends. Transparency builds the bidder trust that drives prices up.
3. You don't need to be present on auction day. Once your items are consigned, cataloged, and listed, your job is done. We handle everything: photography, listing, promotion, auction day, buyer checkout, and item removal. You'll receive your settlement check and a full itemized report — no attendance required.
4. Timing affects your return. Spring and fall are historically the strongest seasons for farm equipment in North Texas. Estate contents tend to do well year-round. If you have flexibility, let us help you choose the right auction date for your category.
5. Read your seller agreement before signing. We keep ours simple and straightforward — no hidden fees, no surprises. But you should still understand your commission rate, any applicable reserve price terms, and the payment timeline. If anything is unclear, call us. We'll walk you through it line by line.
